Description:
SL.01 | Complete renovation of a 70' 280sqm house with 850sqm interior, Montpellier, France
This project consists of the complete renovation of a 1970s architect-designed residence, with approximately 270 m² of interior space and 900 m² of exterior areas redesigned and landscaped. The intention was to reinterpret the original architectural character of the house while adapting it to contemporary living standards.
The intervention includes a full reworking of the building envelope, with new thermal insulation, new exterior joinery, façade improvements and redesigned boundary elements. The internal layout has also been reconfigured, with selective structural interventions allowing the creation of new openings and stronger spatial connections between the different areas of the house.
A central objective of the project is to improve the fluidity of the living spaces and strengthen the relationship between the interior and the surrounding landscape. Openings are repositioned and enlarged to frame views and establish clear visual axes throughout the house, allowing natural light and the garden to become an integral part of the spatial experience.
Inside, a continuous floor treatment unifies the different spaces and reinforces a sense of visual continuity. The material palette combines natural stone and marble details with warm wooden elements, creating a balanced dialogue between mineral textures and organic warmth.
Custom-made oak furniture is designed specifically for the project, integrating storage and architectural elements while maintaining a minimal and refined aesthetic. Lighting is conceived as soft and atmospheric, carefully highlighting the volumes and materials while preserving the calm character of the interior.
A marble fireplace acts as a central architectural feature within the main living space, contributing to the warm and intimate atmosphere that defines the house.
The project ultimately seeks to balance the spirit of the original architecture with contemporary spatial clarity, creating a home that feels both timeless and deeply connected to its surroundings.
