Description:
432 Hz / Renovation of a 19th-Century House into a Playful Family Haven
432 Hz is the complete transformation of a historic 1826 house in the heart of Cournonterral, redesigned as a joyful, playful home dedicated to children’s imagination and parental well-being. The renovation blends advanced technical interventions with a soft, emotional approach to family life, turning a 19th-century structure into a contemporary sanctuary for creativity, rest, and exploration.
The project begins with a full thermal upgrade of the house. All walls were insulated, and major structural modifications were carried out, including a 4.50-metre under-pinning through a 60-centimetre-thick stone wall. These interventions restored the building’s stability while preparing it for a new way of living.
The outdoor spaces were entirely reimagined. A custom wooden pool anchors the garden, surrounded by a landscaped patio of nearly 90 m². A new wooden terrace, bespoke steps, planter lighting, and tailor-made wooden guardrails, crafted in Itauba wood, were designed specifically for the project.
The façades underwent a complete restoration. Layers of old coatings were removed to reveal the original 200-year-old stone, bringing back the authentic materiality of the house and reconnecting the architecture with its historical depth.
Inside, the renovation combines technical precision with a warm, playful sensibility. Full insulation and thermal improvements provide modern comfort, while a curated palette of colors and textures shapes a serene, vibrant atmosphere.
A key visual gesture is the Choronophilia 2 suspension by Artemide, placed as a focal point in the living room and revealed through a circular opening in a custom-cut partition, an architectural frame that transforms a lighting piece into an artwork.
The bathrooms were redesigned using soft curves and lime-based polished concrete, creating a fluid, tactile environment aligned with the home’s gentle aesthetic.
One of the most transformative spaces is the former garage, now converted into a children’s playroom and dormitory accommodating up to four children and a baby. This space includes a custom climbing wall, a fully cushioned impact-absorbing floor for safety, and a complete rehabilitation of the former stone vats.
In one of these restored vats, a children's bathroom was created using Geberit Bambini fixtures, scaled and designed specifically for young children. The second vat was transformed into a Snoezelen room, a multi-sensory space dedicated to relaxation, stimulation, and emotional comfort.
Upstairs, two bedrooms were redesigned to welcome adults or guests, ensuring the house can host extended families or visiting friends with ease.
Project 432 Hertz is a celebration of movement, childhood, and serenity. It transforms a centuries-old structure into a living organism, balanced, warm, technically refined, and profoundly human, where every corner invites play, discovery, and shared moments.
